Sapling & Flint
Kénhte Tank Top
Teyotsihstokwáthe Dakota Brant honours her paternal heritage extending to the fishing community at Kenhtéke, Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory along the Bay of Quinte - or Kénhte in the Mohawk language - where her father Tewatoken'será:ke Richard Brant's paternal family hails from. The Mohawks from the Bay of Quinte are reknowned spear & net fishermen, bringing home pickeral and other Bay animals for generations.
This design features rain clouds and lightening, honouring the Thunderers who wake up the earth and waters in the spring just before the fish begin to run. Spear fishers line the waters in search for pickeral, and are followed in the design by furrowed land as Haudenosaunee begin turned over their gardens in the spring, and add the fish guts & heads into their composted soil, so nutrient levels of the gardens increase exponentially, and no part of the fish is wasted.
