Family Ties Clutch
"Family Ties" is designed by Teyotsihstokwáthe Dakota Brant as a reminder of the ancestors we have standing behind us. A strong young Indigenous woman stands with her ancestor; sharing the painted marks of beauty she has inherited through her line. The young leader has blue eyes as a testament to how Indigenous communities have adopted and had great love for people of all nations since the time of contact. Today's Indigenous Nations continue to reel with the impacts of colonization, including our concept of citizenship. Western blood quantum ideologies replaced the clan system which organized family, citizenship, and connection to place for millennia. Our ancestors defined citizenship by their commitment to family, community, and place.
Our fabric is proudly designed, milled and printed on unceded Mohawk territory; supporting Indigenous and Canadian small business partnerships.
