10kt Gold Horn Rattle Pendant & Earring Set

$0

Horn rattles are synonymous with the Singing Societies of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. They are one of the singing instruments used by societies when putting through both the ceremonies and social songs that bring the community together. Haudenosaunee singing societies have one fundamental purpose; to help the people. They accomplish this mission by creating, learning and teaching social and ceremonial songs and sharing them when asked by community people. The horn rattle, often made from the hollowed horn of bison or cow, is filled with beads, buckshot, seeds, or the material of choice for the rattle maker to provide the perfect sound pitch for the singer using the rattle. Horn rattles are carved from various woods Indigenous to the carolinian forests of the Haudenosaunee territories, and can be both simple in their aesthetic, or carved with intricate designs and may have the name or mark of the rattle maker.
